Poseidon Design were commissioned to create this large floor mosaic, for Dalwhinnie Distillery's Visitor Centre in the Scottish Highlands. Here the 'Gentle Spirit', a full bodied malt is produced from the snow fed waters of the Allt an t'Sluic burn.
Created from 4 large slabs of grey porcelain, inlaid with sand coloured porcelain, the mosaic combines four strong images. At the top right hand side, the two distinctive "Pagodas" of the distillery buildings are displayed. Moving round clockwise, the next image depicts the Thistle - National Flower of Scotland. After this there is a representation of Dalwhinnie Distillery's location, nestled deep in the Scottish Highlands, one of the highest distilleries in in the land. The final image is of the Scottish Lion Rampant - used as a heraldic device by the Kings of Scotland since the 12th century.
These four images are enclosed within a belt inscribed with the Gaelic "Spiorad Sitheic". Translated this means "Gentle Spirt".
